It’s hard to believe that another winter is already near – which means dry-skin season. Even here in Florida the air gets drier and my skin needs a little extra help.
That’s why I wanted to share with you today my natural dry-skin recipe.
I have tried many natural oils for my skin – almond, jojoba, argan, etc.. While they made my skin look pretty and moist at first, after an hour or so it’s as if I hadn’t put anything on. In fact, I found them to be drying.
It wasn’t until I tried grape-seed oil that I knew I was on to something.
You see, grape-seed oil contains a polyunsaturated essential fatty acid called linoleic acid (LA). LA has anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to create a barrier against the elements to keep in the moisture.
I think of it as a winter coat.
Grape-seed oil also has the ability to repair free-radical damage caused by the sun and it enhances human body lipids to maintain proper levels of moisture1. And you can feel it.
Studies also show that grape-seed oil has wound-healing properties when used topically2.
I have found grape-seed oil to be one of the most hydrating oils. It also alleviates the pain of very dry skin. It’s like a big glass of water on a hot day.
It took me a while to find all the ingredients for my dry-skin recipe. Finally, after many years, I concocted one that I love. It’s simple but it works!
I will even keep a small container near the couch, when I’m watching T.V., for my hands.
Sandy’s Dry Skin Recipe
- ¼ Cup of pure grape-seed oil (food grade)
- ¼ Cup of pure aloe vera gel (food grade)
- 1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
- 20 drops of essential oil of your choice
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and pour into a container that you can either pump or has a small hole so that you can easily dispense. I like to reuse old lotion (from gift baskets) or shampoo containers. Even those clear containers for travelling work well.
I hope you enjoy the recipe as much as I do.
I would love to hear from you so feel free to email me with any questions or comments.
To a younger more healthy you,
Sandy
